LPA Area Expected to bring Rainfall to the PI over the Weekend / 10 FEB 2012

Through out the week we have been watching closely a cluster of Thunderstorm activity stirring up the ocean south of Guam along the easterly’s. Today PAGASA has now began warning on this unorganized area of thunderstorms stating.  “At 2:00 p.m. today, a low pressure area (LPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 960 km east of Mindanao (7.0°N, 136.0°E).  Northeast monsoon affecting Luzon and Visayas. ”   Therefore through out the weekend we are expecting an increase in Thunderstorm and Rainshower activity in the Archipelago specifically along the South East Coast as the LPA approaches.  Below is the current JMA analysis showing a Low Pressure Area for this system as well.

With that said the likelyhood of flooding is high this weekend with a moderate chance of landslides in areas with steep grades and or already saturated from previous rainfalls.  Good news is it should remain fairly disorganized and the thunderstorm frequency will range from Isolated to Scattered.
