The earlier mentioned Invest 93W has now developed onto Tropical Depression 01W, the first Tropical Depression named by JTWC for the year 2012. The system is currently located near 9.7W, 113.4E approximately 420NM East of Ho Chi Minh city or 388km north of the city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. The system is currently moving westward slowly at 17knots per hour with Winds 25knt and Gusts 30knt. JTWC has forecast that the system will dissipate as a significant tropical cyclone in the next 72 hour after making landfall in Vietnam. The following diagram is the forecasted track from the JTWC.
Information from the Malaysian Weather Agency warned over possible thunderstorm activity, strong winds and rough sea over the South China Sea.
The agency has issued a Third Category Warning for strong winds and rough sea in the SCS region and it is very dangerous for any sea activity including oil rigs.
