A weak area of convection in the tropics continues to move over the Southern Philippines today bringing heavy precipitation to much of Mindinao. This same distrubance can be seen extening acorss Malaysia and Singapore. Over 60mm of rainfall in the past 24hrs has been reported in numerous locations along this belt. The analysis above shows the series of low pressures in this belt. Expect these rain showers to continue to linger in this belt through the rest of the week and even pickup by Thursday in to Friday. North of this instability though Northern Luzon will see fair weather with afternoon airmass thunderstorms being the main concern in cities like Manila and Bangkok.
As we look at the westerlies a low pressure area is pushing off of Eastern China today bringing the threat of rain showers to Hong Kong through the Ryuku islands. This is expected to push through on Tuesday before moving on to the main island of Honshu where Tokyo will see rain showers by Wednesday evening.
Behind this low more snow is going to fall along North West Japan. While the cold air continues to filter South across the Sea of Japan on Tuesday in to Wednesday expect over 50mm of snowfall to occur in Eastern Hokkaido through Central Honshu. This will relax for a brief period of time on Thursday prior to the next low that is expected to strike the area.
