It has been a tough day for fellow Malaysians especially in the West Peninsula of Malaysia. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in almost the entire West Peninsula from as north as the states of Perlis until the south of the states of Johor. The following images are obtained from the Drainage and Irrigation Department of Malaysia for the states of Selangor and also Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. It is clearly visible that these central area of Peninsula Malaysia is experiencing heavy rain fall ranging from 60mm to over 180mm in the duration of 48 hours. The Malaysian Meterological Department had also issued a Orange Stage (Second Category) heavy rainfall warning for this area and as updated earlier, much of the metropolitan city is currently under water due to flashflood by this heavy rainfall in approximately 3 – 4 hours of none stop heavy rain. This heavy precipitation condition is expected to continue until early Friday morning. The current episode of heavy rainfall in the Peninsula Malaysia is caused by the Madden-Julian Oscillation. Aside from the Federal Territory, other states are experiencing the similar weather. Over the northern region, the states of Perlis and Kedah has been experiencing some heavy precipitation over the past 48 hours
resulting some flashflood over
several low lying area. Several main river in the states has been reported to be bursting affecting area around the river bank to be flooded but as the sky is clear today though it is cloudy, the water level is expected to recede further thus not wreaking any flood havoc that will further aggravate the situation.
