Philippines 3-Day Forecast | April 19, 2012

High pressure continues to dominate across the Philippines today promoting clear skies and warm temperatures. However, the southern areas of the country could be looking at some rain showers over the weekend as a wave approaches from the east. But before we get to that forecast, we’ll look at Hong Kong first which is getting yet another round of thunderstorms.

The satellite image above shows clouds continue to move across Hong Kong and the rest of Southern China. The storms have prompted HKO to issue another Thunderstorm Warning for possible strong winds of up to 70kph. It’s not as strong as the one that moved through 3 days ago but it can still bring up to 100mm of rain as reported from areas just west of Hong Kong. Rain should begin to die down tonight.

As for the Philippines, most areas continue to enjoy clear skies and warm temperatures. Temps continue to climb into the mid and upper 30s in some spots. We do see some rain showers in the forecast although will mostly affect Visayas and Mindanao. A tropical wave embedded along the ITCZ could enhance storm development as early as tomorrow for parts of Eastern Mindanao and perhaps Visayas. Coverage will increase on Saturday with the heaviest rains moving into Northern Mindanao. We’re looking at around 40 to 80mm in the next 2 to 3 days. Unfortunately for Luzon, dry conditions is forecast to continue in the coming days. There could be some thunderstorms forming in the northern half, however, as a low forms near China.  Furthermore, rogue showers from the wave could stray into extreme Southern Luzon (Bicol Region) by the weekend.

Next update will be on Sunday, April 22.
