Typhoon Tembin rapidly intensified in the past 24 hours and is now a strong system east of Luzon. The system will continue to strengthen in the next 2 days, with JTWC forecasting a peak intensity of around Category 4. Tembin is forecast to make lanfall along the coast of Hualien County in Taiwan by Thursday morning. The system will weaken and make a second landfall in Guangdong or Fujian Province by early Friday.

Tropical Storm Bolaven, on the other hand, is located northwest of Guam and is consolidating as it begins to absorb the remnants of Invest 98W. Many computer models are also forecasting Bolaven to become a very strong typhoon by the latter part of this week. While it is still too early to pinpoint the exact track of Bolaven, it’s safe to say that residents from Northern Luzon, to Taiwan, to Eastern China, and all the way to the Ryukyu Islands should closely ┬ámonitor the developments of this system. Based on the current forecasts, Bolaven could become a typhoon by as early as Wednesday and could approach any of those areas mentioned by as early as Friday or into Saturday.
