Typhoon Tembin (Igme) | TS Bolaven Update August 21, 2012

Here is our latest video update on Typhoon Tembin (Bagyong Igme) and Tropical Storm Bolaven. Typhoon Tembin has slightly weakened as it slowly pulls away from Luzon. The system could still intensify in the next 24 to 36 hours before making landfall in Hualien in Taiwan by Thursday morning. Tembin will cross Taiwan, weakening along the way. Threat of heavy rains and damaging winds so please prepare NOW and always monitor the news and official warnings and forecasts from your government.

PAGASA has kept Public Storm Warning Signal #1 for Batanes Group of Islands. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) of Taiwan has issued Sea Warning for the approaching typhoon and could issue land warnings tonight or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bolaven continues to consolidate as it moves across the Pacific. It could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow evening and will be named (Bagyong Julian). Furthermore, Bolaven could intensify into a typhoon early tomorrow morning (Wednesday). Forecast tracks are in good agreement and expects Bolaven to near Japanese Islands (either Ishigakijima or Okinawa) by Saturday. There are still some uncertainties though regarding the weakening of the ridge. Another possibility is a binary interaction (Fujiwhara) with Tembin although that seems unlikely right now.

The main concern right now is Taiwan. If you are living here, especially along the east coast of Hualien or Taitung County, please prepare NOW. We are not an official agency so continue to monitor your local news stations for possible evacuation orders or other warnings from your government.
