Prapiroon has weakened to a Tropical Storm and continues to meander in the Philippine Sea. The system is forecast to begin turning northward and could pass between Okinawa and the Daito Islands by Thursday. It is no longer expected to become a typhoon as dry air and stronger wind shear is forecast to hamper organization. By Friday, Prapiroon is forecast to recurve and accelerate to the northeast; passing well south of the Mainland Japanese Islands.

Kadena Air Base is now under TCCOR3 as Prapiroon is forecast to move 200 to 300km east of Okinawa by Thursday. Always check with your local officials (be it JMA or other agencies) for the latest warnings for your area.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Maria is currently passing just west of the Ogasawara Islands (Bonin Islands) and is bringing strong winds, heavy rains, and rough surf. This system is moving quickly to the north and we expect weather conditions in the islands to die down tonight and tomorrow. Maria is forecast to turn and accelerate northeastward passing well south of Honshu. By Thursday or Friday, Maria is forecast to become an extra-tropical cyclone as it moves across the Northern Pacific.

Stay safe!
