Here is our latest Video Update on the newest Tropical Cyclone in the Western Pacific. Tropical Storm Bopha formed near the Caroline Islands and is the 24th named cyclone by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The storm is currently in the middle of the Pacific but is near enough some islands and atolls in the Federated States of Micronesia. The National Weather Service in Guam has issued numerous warnings and watches for the threat of strong winds, heavy rain, and rough seas. For more information on those warnings, please click HERE

TS Bopha is forecast to continue moving slowly westward, intensifying along the way. It will pass south of Chuuk tomorrow and also well south of Guam by Friday. Due to the favorable conditions in the region, it is highly likely that Bopha will become a typhoon by Friday, or even as early as Thursday! As for the track, most models and agencies agree on a generally westward track over the next 3 days but then they diverge as we head into the weekend. Since it’s still too far away, expect large shifts in the forecast. For now, we can say that the islands of Yap and Palau (and surrounding atolls) should closely monitor the developments of this system as it could impact the region by this weekend.

Stay safe!
