The storm has intensified overnight and has also accelerated as it moves westward. Rain showers were reported in Pohnpei last night and could spread into Chuuk later tonight and into tomorrow as the system passes just south of the atolls. Tropical Storm Bopha is forecast to continue moving generally westward, intensifying along the way. Several islands and atolls in Micronesia are now under Tropical Storm Warnings and even Typhoon Watches for Yap issued by the National Weather Service (Guam). As it moves across the favorable regions of the West Pacific, Bopha is forecast to become a Typhoon as early as Friday. It is, then, forecast to move near the islands of Palau and Yap by Saturday and Sunday likely bringing strong winds and heavy rains in the region. As for the Philippines, uncertainties remain whether the system will indeed make landfall there. However, we urge everyone in the forecast track to continue closely monitoring the developments of this cyclone.

Stay safe!
