The system continues to intensify and has actually been upgraded by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center to a Typhoon; the Japan Meteorological Agency is keeping it as a Severe Tropical Storm.

Typhoon Watches have now been issued by the National Weather Service (Guam) for Palau, Yap, and several atolls surrounding them. (For the complete warnings by NWS, please click HERE) Furthermore, Palau’s Emergency Management Office has issued a statement urging residents to closely follow radio and TV for any news and instructions in relation to the impending storm.

Bopha is forecast to directly impact Palau between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning bringing typhoon-force winds of up to 185kph based on the latest forecasts. Rains of up to 100mm are also possible along with the threat of high waves along the coast. Please prepare now if you live in Palau!

By next week, Bopha is forecast to take aim towards Eastern Philippines, particularly in Visayas. Favorable conditions will allow the system to possibly attain Category 3 status before impacting Philippines. While it is still 5 days away, and we can’t really pinpoint the exact landfall location yet, we urge everyone in the country to continue closely monitoring the progress of this system. The timing for the impact is between Tuesday and Wednesday.
