Heavy rains were reported across Central and Southern Philippines over the past two days causing disruptions in sea and air travel. Rainfall map below shows the heaviest rains which were reported in Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Southern Palawan. The Philippines should expect generally better weather this weekend but showers will still linger in the eastern part of the country due to the effects of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Sonamu is forecast to intensify slightly over the weekend as it feeds on the warm waters of the South China Sea. As of this time, we’re not expecting Sonamu to make landfall in Vietnam, however, it could get close enough to bring some rains into the southern tip of the country including Ho Chi Minh. By early next week, Sonamu is forecast to head towards the Malay Peninsula as a weakening Tropical Depression.
