The image above shows the expansive cloud cover associated with Neoguri. Strong convective activity continues to build and expand in and around the circulation center. The eye is still rugged but we expect it to clear out by today as the system tightens that inner core. Favorable conditions for intensification will persist along the path of Neoguri which should allow the cyclone to undergo a period of Rapid Intensification over the next 48 hours.
Forecast Tracks from computer models and weather agencies in the region are still clustered on a path towards the Ryukyu Islands. Okinawa, Amami, and the smaller islands that dot the archipelago are forecast to bear the brunt of this typhoon beginning early Tuesday morning and into the day on Wednesday. Potentially damaging winds, heavy rains, and high waves, will be the threat for much of the region by early next week.
We’ll continue to have updates for you throughout the next few days so be sure to check back here for the latest. As always, please make sure to follow the forecasts and warnings from your Official Weather agency (JMA for Japan). Stay safe!
