Winter’s bitter chill continues over portions of the extreme portions of the northern region, while a developing storm system with bring clouds and showers and will make it a pretty “blah” weekend across the central region. The south stays hot, with some relief for a few locations, and the tropics are still dead silent and featuring the best weather, collectively, of the entire NWPAC.
NORTH
Frigid weather remains over portions of Mongolia, northern China, and eastern Russia this weekend as a reinforcing shot of cold air settles in across the area. Locations to the south are seeing a nice rebound in temperatures, ahead of a developing storm system to the south that is helping pull up some warmer and more humid air. Conditions will begin to deteriorate in eastern China, Korea, and Japan as the weekend progresses, as a developing “south coast low” gets its act together, poised to slide across these locales Sunday and Monday, bringing clouds, rain, and even some snow to higher elevations of Korea and Japan.

CENTRAL
The developing storm system mentioned already will be getting its act together over southeastern China and Taiwan this weekend, while pulling out of areas to the south and west. Clouds and rainfall will be plentiful through the entire weekend for these locations, while most other areas will see improving weather throughout the time period ending on Monday. Temperatures will hold steady compared to recent days over most of the region, with northern Indochina seeing a significant warm-up ahead of a new storm system developing to the northwest.

SOUTH
It still feels a lot like summer in the southern region, as torrid heat continues in portions of Indochina and the southernmost Philippines this weekend. Fortunately, there’s a little bit more moisture to work with this weekend, so there will be more showers and thunderstorms to help cool things off in some locations, especially over Indochina, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

TROPICS
The tropics remain very quiet this weekend, with no potential trouble anywhere on the horizon for the region. Some continental energy will affect the Mariana Islands with clouds and showers, and a few thunderstorms could pop up in eastern Micronesia with a weak wave passing through. Aside from some windy conditions associated with the dissipating central Pacific storm system TD01C PALI affecting Majuro, most locations should see a pretty nice weekend ahead.
