Temperatures hold steady across most of the north region as the central region cools down a bit. The south region is still quite hot but some areas are preparing for a little relief. The tropics are still quiet, but warming up quickly.
NORTH
The north region will see temperatures hold steady, or trend slightly upwards, today, especially over northern and western locales. Skies will be sunny to partly cloudy across this portion of the region. To the east, a frontal system undulating along the eastern seaboard of Japan and eastern China will keep temperatures fresh, with a noticeable drop from yesterday’s readings. Continued instability along the frontal system will keep the skies cloudy and showery over Japan’s eastern prefectures. A brisk flow behind the front will keep low-level moisture pumping in along the west coast, and orographic lifting will help squeeze out some rain showers, and high elevation snow showers in these areas. Areas to the south will see cloudy skies today, as moisture at all levels passes through these areas.

CENTRAL
A cool-down is underway, as the latest surge presses to the south across the central region. Low-level moisture associated with a frontal system to the east of China, combined with mid and upper-level moisture from the jet stream, will help keep skies cloudy across most of the region, with rain likely for southeastern China, Taiwan, and northern Indochina. A few thunderstorms could also pop up in western locales, as moisture gets a lift from topography. Temperatures will be a good deal cooler across the region for the next couple of days as the new surge rolls through.

SOUTH
A late-season frontal system is poised to roll through portions of the south region over the next 48 hours, bringing some relief to the Philippines and central Vietnam this weekend. However, today the daily serving of super-hot weather is on the grill, as warm air advection out ahead of the front takes over. Northern locations of the south region will see partly cloudy to sunny skies this afternoon, allowing the intense sunshine to beam on through and really heat things up. Southern locales within the region will see more heat, and a good chance for rain and thunderstorms, as tropical moisture cruises through these areas.

TROPICS
The tropics remain mostly quiet today, as a slightly concentrated area of convergence rides westward slowly along the ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone) through the Marshall Islands and eastern Micronesia. As it was yesterday, there is little in the way of rainfall associated with this area, with very dry air out ahead and to the north being circulated within the general flow. The Mariana Islands will see a bit of a cool down as one continental frontal system helps reinforce the monsoonal flow from the northeast. Wake Island will see some evening showers as this energy gets closer to them later this afternoon. The remainder of the region will see lots of sunshine with just a few scattered clouds.
