NWPAC outlook, 20 APR

NWPAC outlook, 20 APR

Very warm weather settles into the north region as clouds and showers affect parts of the central region. The heat in the south has declined, but spread out a bit while the tropics keep acting like they’re in a library or something.

A compact storm system is moving through parts of northeastern China and eastern Russia today, bringing along a few clouds and showers as it tracks to the east. Temperatures on either side of the weather system are warm, with the warmest conditions yet this season settling in over Mongolia and northern China. The weather is fine in Japan to the east, but as you travel to the west, general cloudiness takes over in portions of Korea and northeastern China, with rain falling a bit farther south along the east coast of China.

City High Temp C (F) Low Temp C (F) Conditions
Ulaanbaatar 18 (64) -5 (23) Partly Cloudy
Vladivostok 11 (52) -3 (27) Partly Cloudy
Beijing 28 (82) 9 (48) Partly Cloudy
Seoul 19 (66) 11 (52) Cloudy
Tokyo 18 (64) 14 (57) Fair
Xi’an 27 (81) 9 (48) Partly Cloudy
Shanghai 22 (72) 17 (63) Rain

Unsettled weather plagues much of the central region, as a developing storm system over China becomes a focusing mechanism for moisture and instability. Conditions in the eastern portion of the region will be good, but as you travel to the west and south, widespread cloudiness abounds, with a chance of thunderstorms possible in southern China and northern Vietnam during the peak of afternoon heating.

City High Temp C (F) Low Temp C (F) Conditions
Kunming 19 (66) 10 (50) Thunderstorms
Hong Kong 26 (79) 23 (73) Cloudy
Taipei 29 (84) 22 (72) Partly Cloudy
Iwo To 26 (79) 21 (70) Partly Cloudy
Hanoi 28 (82) 23 (73) Sctd Thunderstorms

Overall, the intense heat in parts of the south has declined just a bit, however, dangerous heat indices are prevalent in a wider area as locations which have not seen intense temperatures thus far watch the mercury climb to hazardous levels. Indochina will once again be the hot spot, and the heat will not be restricted to just inland locations today. To the south, clouds and showers will affect parts of the southern Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia as tropical moisture gets a lift from the hot afternoon sun.

Siem Reap 37 (99) 27 (81) Partly Cloudy

Brunei 34 (93) 27 (81) Fair
Singapore 32 (90) 27 (81) Thunderstorms

The tropics remain quiet, with no organized activity present. Normal moisture levels abound across the region, and we only have a couple of weak easterly waves in the region, sliding slowly to the west along the weak I.T.C.Z. (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone), so, conditions look to remain quiet for the foreseeable future. General afternoon cloudiness, along with a few showers and scattered thunderstorms, are on tap across the entire region today.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
