Near-record warmth settles into parts of the north region as the plum rains prevail over much of the central region. More heat is in store for the south, and the tropics are starting to show some very weak signs of life.
NORTH
Very warm temperatures are on tap today across much of the north region. Near-record warmth has been in place over the past few days as the cooler air stays blocked off far to the north. Most of the region will see partly cloudy skies today, with eastern China seeing a good chance for rain thanks to some energy sliding over from the west, associated with the seasonal plum rains.

CENTRAL
The seasonal plum rains are settled in over the central region as well, as a stalled frontal system lingers just offshore. Sufficient heating is in place to help a few thunderstorms pop up in places, especially over southeastern China and Taiwan. To the west and south, skies will be sunny to partly cloudy with very warm temperatures.

SOUTH
Intense heat continues over the upper half of the south region, especially over inland locations across southern Indochina and the northern Philippines. Skies are mostly cloud-free across this portion of the region, letting the intense sun shine on down. To the south, clouds are helping moderate temperatures a bit, and allowing a few showers and thunderstorms to develop over parts of Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

TROPICS
A couple of impressive easterly waves are propagating along the ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone) today. One is located in the western islands of Micronesia. This system is a trough of low pressure, aligned NW to SE, between longitude 131.0E-145.0E, and between 12.0N-6.0N latitude. This weak ripple is expected to continue moving to the west-northwest as it dries out. The second wave is located in the Marshall Islands far to the east. Aside from bringing some showers to the eastern islands, not much is expected of this wave. Overall cloudiness and showery weather is on the menu for the tropics today, as the sun heats up the plentiful moisture across the region.
