NWPAC outlook, 15, JUN

NWPAC outlook, 15, JUN

The ides of June are upon us and we find unsettled weather across eastern portions of the north region while the East Asian monsoon continues its assault on the central region. The south region warms up a bit more as scattered showers dot the afternoon skies, and the tropics remain quiet for yet another day.

NORTH

A couple of weather systems are bringing clouds and showers to eastern parts of the north region today. The air mass behind the front is only slightly drier, but not much cooler, so temperatures are fairly uniform across the region. Cloudy skies and rainfall is likely across southeastern Russia, the Korean peninsula, and extreme eastern China, while the rest of the region sees a nice day with warm temperatures and partly cloudy skies.

CENTRAL

The latest surge from the north has pushed most of the méiyǔ energy into the southern region, where clouds, showers, and pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorms affect many locales within the region, especially in southeastern China, Taiwan, and the Ryukyu Islands. Flooding rains have fallen across these areas in recent days, and the upcoming round of rainfall will only make a bad situation worse. Residents affected by heavy rain should be alert for flash flooding and possible landslides, especially in the higher terrain.

SOUTH

It will be another typical day across much of the south region, with very warm afternoon temperatures and a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms for just about everyone. There are no significant weather systems in the region, save for a weak trough feature over the northern Philippines, to help stir up the atmosphere and squeeze out some rainfall, so areas lucky enough to be hit by a few showers will be a tad bit cooler than other areas that will heat up generously under the intense afternoon sunshine.

TROPICS

Today sees another day of limitless potential in the tropics once again being totally unrealized due to a lack of organized activity. Weak ripples of tropical energy are migrating slowly westward in the general flow of the I.T.C.Z. (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone), but these areas will be hard pressed to generate much in the way of rainfall relief from the parched islands in the region.
