Clouds and showers return to much of the north region and the central region sees another day of thunderstorms and flooding rainfall as well. The south is mired in the think, soupy, tropical atmosphere while activity within the region responsible for all of this warm, wet moisture is missing in action.
NORTH
Clouds, showers, and a few thunderstorms will pop up across much of the north region as méiyǔ moisture and energy work back to the north. A stalled frontal system remains draped over Japan and eastern China, helping to focus the moisture into developing rainfall. There’s a bit of a break in the moisture flow along the front, so Shanghai will see a pretty decent day, but showers and thunderstorms are possible across the Japanese archipelago and the Korean peninsula. Another storm system is pressing down from the northwest into Mongolia and northern China, and the southerly flow ahead of the front is pulling some tropical moisture up into central portions of the region, helping increase clouds and showers and significantly lowering temperatures. Temperatures will be seasonably warm across the region, with lower readings where cloud cover and rainfall amounts are greatest.

CENTRAL
More showers and thunderstorms will roll across the central region today as the ever-present méiyǔ front wavers over the region. The front is hugging the southeastern Chinese coast, acting as a source for lifting up the copious moisture across the region into strong showers and thunderstorms. Once again we see a risk for locally heavy rain, localized flooding, and possible landslides in the higher elevations as the rain pounds the already very saturated ground. Temperatures will be reflective of the season, with warm, but bearable readings, region-wide.

SOUTH
The south region will see the least change in the weather, as warm, summery conditions continue. Lots of moisture is in place making for a very humid day, and the warm sunshine is helping to heat things up, which will result in numerous clouds and showers, with occasional thunderstorms across most of the region this afternoon. The earlier monsoon gyre over the South China Sea has moved into Indochina, and has opened up into an elongated trough. This just means that the moisture continues to get pulled into these areas, but the energy has declined a bit, so activity will be a bit more scattered than in previous days, especially over southern Indochina.

TROPICS
All is quiet across the tropics, as the ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone) takes a bit of a break after last week’s round of action. Ample moisture across the region along with the hot afternoon sun will help fire off the usual serving of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region as residents enjoy a day that reminds them why they live on these beautiful islands in the first place.
