NORTH

Most of the north region will see a nice weekend ahead as a weak frontal system slides through parts of northern China, Mongolia, and southeastern Russia tonight and Sunday. It will be a warm weekend across the region, but no dangerous heat is anticipated.

CENTRAL

The central region will also see a warm weekend, with numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms, with occasionally heavy rain, likely during each afternoon. As always, the threat of flooding and landslides is in place in the mountainous terrain where orographic lifting will help increase rainfall rates over these areas.

The south region will see another day filled with morning clouds, which blossom into strong afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Hints of a significant rainfall event next week for the Philippines may be taking shape over the WPAC, as shown in the graphic. We will be watching the development of this situation closely.

TROPICS

07W FULL, 06 AUG

07W FULL, 06 AUG

Severe Tropical Storm 1605/Tropical Storm 07W “OMAIS” continues to slowly strengthen while tracking to the north at a turtle’s pace. The storm is expected to remain on this course over the weekend, while gaining strength to likely typhoon status by Monday. There are also hints of a wild ride ahead for the tropics in the next couple of weeks as the MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation) enters a positive phase in the WPAC, and abundant cyclogenesis ensues. We’ll keep an eye on things for ya!
