NORTH
The heat spreads across parts of central and eastern China as a weak frontal boundary stalls out to the north. The warm air is piling on as it butts up against a fairly strong shot of cool air that has brought autumn temperatures to Mongolia, northern China. Dangerous heat indices will once again be in place across interior central China, peaking near 44C (111F), as the heat and humidity combine for an oppressive afternoon. The frontal system will bring some scattered showers, and some scattered thundershowers, along a line from Mongolia, eastward to Japan.

CENTRAL
Tropical Storm 11W DIANMU continues to slide to the west parallel to the southern coast of China. The system will make landfall over northern Vietnam later tonight, bringing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and a risk of flooding and landslides, especially in the higher terrain of northern Vietnam and southern China. The remainder of the region will also see widespread unsettled weather, as deep tropical moisture gets a lift from the very warm afternoon sun.

SOUTH
The Philippines will get a bit of a break today, with only widely scattered showers and strong thunderstorms this afternoon. Tropical moisture is being drawn up into Tropical Storm 11W to the north, increasing rainfall chances across the entire Southeast Asian peninsula. Areas to the south can also expect a round of typical afternoon showers and strong thunderstorms as the warm sunshine lifts up the moisture.

TROPICS
The tropical monsoon ‘front’ that has been in place over the western Pacific is generating a large amount of vorticity, as we now have 4 depression-strength systems in various stages of growth. The dual designations refer to the JMA/JTWC assignments.
Tropical Depression/Tropical Storm 10W is located just west of the Mariana Island chain. This system is expected to slowly gather strength while tracking to the north-northeast over the next day or so, and make a turn to the north-northwest this weekend.
Tropical Storm/Tropical depression 11W DIANMU is maintaining strength as it traverses the Gulf of Tonkin, with the coast of northern Vietnam in its sights. The system should make landfall later tonight, bringing typical tropical weather hazards to the region.
Tropical Depression/Tropical Storm 12W is located a bit to the southeast of Japan as it slowly gets better organized. Although 12W has been making what appears to be a beeline for the Japanese coast, forecasts indicate that this system will take a very strange track, in a slow counter-clockwise arc, parallel to the Japanese coast, while slowly gaining strength over the next 3 days.
Finally, 98W INVEST, located far northeast of the Mariana Islands, has been designated as having a high risk potential for 24 hour cyclone development, as the J.T.W.C. (Joint Typhoon Warning Center) has issued a T.C.F.A. (Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert). The system is expected to slowly organize while moving in a general north-northwesterly track this weekend.
The remainder of the tropics will see a good chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, as plentiful moisture combines with scattered pockets of energy.
