Tropical storm 23W SONGDA has been designated far to the east. This system is expected to gain strength as it tracks to the west-northwest, then re-curving to the north and northeast as it gets caught up in the baroclinic zone over the Pacific. This system will not affect any major land areas, and will only be a challenge to the smaller islands and shipping.
