NORTH
Another surge of wintry air will make its way through the north region this weekend, bringing a good dose of snow and dropping temperatures significantly across the northern portion of the region. The current frontal system is draped across the northern third of the region, stretching back to the southwest and west from southeastern Russia to north-central China. Temperatures ahead of the front are warming up a bit due to warm air advection leading the system, and readings behind the front are a great deal colder, with Mongolia, north-central China and southeastern Russia staying locked in the deep freeze this weekend. The front will move slowly to the south and east, bringing all but the easternmost and southernmost locales under the cold snap by tomorrow.

CENTRAL
Temperatures are comfortably mild across the central region as high pressure builds into the region from the northwest. A weak disturbance will slide through south-central China and bring a few showers through Sunday. Moisture moving up from the south will also help generate some showers in northern Indochina over the weekend. The remainder of the region will see pleasant weather, with lots of sunshine and cool autumn temperatures.

SOUTH
A new tropical depression near southeastern Vietnam will make it a rainy weekend across much of southern Indochina, as the weak system moves slowly to the west-northwest. The biggest threat of this system is rainfall, as development is not expected. The Philippines can relax a bit as severe tropical storm/typhoon 26W MEARI moves off to the northeast slowly. A lingering trough of low pressure extending southwest of MEARI will keep clouds and rain over much of the southern Philippines through the weekend. The remainder of the region will see a weekend full of typical afternoon showers and thunderstorms with warm temperatures each day.

TROPICS
As we enter the weekend, we are left to deal with two tropical systems in the region, as 26W MEARI moves out to sea, and a new tropical depression makes things wet across southern Vietnam.
Sever tropical storm 1623/26W MEARI, designated as a typhoon by the J.T.W.C. (Joint Typhoon Warning Center), continues to track slowly to the northeast today. MEARI absorbed much of the remnant moisture from 99W INVEST, after completely absorbing 91W on Friday. The system is expected to strength slightly as it gets caught up in the general baroclinic flow, and will be jettisoned out to sea without affecting any major landmass directly.
J.M.A. (Japan Meteorological Agency) has designated an area of disturbed weather southeast of Vietnam a new tropical depression, while J.T.W.C. keeps the system weak as a disturbance, but has issued a T.C.F.A. (Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert). This system will not strengthen much do to its movement and its proximity to land. However, southern Vietnam and Cambodia can expect quite a bit of rainfall pout of this system as it moves inland over the weekend.
The remainder of the region can expect a decent chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms over the weekend, with Wake Island being a notable exception as drier continental air filters in and keeps the skies partly cloudy.
