NORTH
Another surge of cold air is entering the region from the north, bringing wintry conditions to Mongolia, northern China, and southeastern Russia. The leading edge of the first surge is hanging offshore of Japan, helping generate clouds and occasional heavy showers over the archipelago. Temperatures across the region will definitely have the feel of autumn, with slightly milder temperatures as you travel to the south.

CENTRAL
The leading edge of the latest cold surge has pulled up stationary over northern Indochina, extending eastward along the southern Chinese coast. The boundary has pulled well enough away that skies will be partly cloudy for most locations, with a chance for showers in the high country of south-central China. Temperatures will be mild across the region, with fairly uniform readings throughout.

SOUTH
Much of the northern half of the south region has dried out nicely as the air mass form the north settles into the region. A stalled frontal boundary is draped over northern Indochina, helping generate clouds and showers for northern reaches of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible in the southern half of the region, which remains untouched by the cooler, drier air from the north.

TROPICS
Two systems remain on the watch list as tropical storm 1624 MA-ON spins up east of the Marianas and 96W INVEST gets better organized out in the Marshall Islands.
J.M.A. (Japan Meteorological Agency) has upgraded 27W into a tropical storm, and given it the name MA-ON. J.T.W.C. (Joint Typhoon Warning Center) continues to designate the system as a tropical depression only. This system has gotten a little better organized overnight as shear relaxes a bit over the immediate area of the center of circulation. Plenty of strong wind shear remains to its north, and that’s where steering currents will take it in the coming days, where most forecasts show dissipation by next week.
Tropical depression/96W INVEST also continues to look better organized in the far east of the region. The J.T.W.C. has issued a T.C.F.A. (Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert) for the system as it drifts slowly to the west. Long-range forecast models are inconclusive with this system with solutions ranging from dissipation to formation of a relatively significant tropical cyclone. We will have to keep a close watch on this one to see how things pan out.
Elsewhere across the tropics, deep moisture will combine with pockets of energy scattered about to help generate another typical dose of showers and thunderstorms across many locales throughout the region.
