NORTH
The cool feel of autumn envelops the north region today as a weak, reinforcing shot of cooler and drier air slides across the northernmost portion of the region. Skies will be fair to partly cloudy across the region, except in parts of interior China where moisture overrides the cooler surface layer ahead of the next surge, which will be significant. Starting this weekend in the northern locales of the region, and sweeping south and east through next week, one can only say “winter is coming”.

CENTRAL
The central region will enjoy a warm mind-autumn day with most locations looking forward to a nice day. A few showers will slide up the terrain of Taiwan as the strong seasonal monsoon flow brings in moisture from the northeast. The next big cool-down for the central region will start in the middle of next week, as a strong frontal system works its way into the region.

SOUTH
High pressure extends to the south over portions of Indochina and the Philippines as the northeast monsoon gets stronger over the region. A plume of tropical moisture, associated with the remnants of what was 27W MA-ON, will continue moving through the northern Philippines today, bringing a good chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. More tropical moisture will be trucked into the archipelago over the next 5 days, so some rainy weather can be expected for the country as we end the week. Showers and thunderstorms are also quite likely for locations to the south as deep tropical moisture remains undisturbed by continental influences from the north.

TROPICS
The tropics have fallen silent as the change of seasons brings in cooler, drier air and changes the atmospheric dynamics.
We did have 97W INVEST out there south of the Mariana Islands yesterday, but that disturbance was taken off the “books’ overnight, so now we just have widespread areas of convergence, especially south of 10N latitude. Several moisture plumes are evident on PWAT (Precipitable Water Vapor) imagery, and will be sliding through the region for the foreseeable future. Most locations in the tropics will see an afternoon of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, with lots of warm sunshine in between the showers.
