NORTH
A reinforcing shot of cooler air will slide through the north region this weekend, bringing clouds and showers to much of the region, with snow showers to northern locales. The weekend will be split, as most locations see one dry day, and one wet day, as we work through the weekend. Wintry precipitation will affect portions of northern china, southeastern Russia, and the Korean peninsula, while the remainder of the region’s precipitation will be in the form of rainfall. Temperatures will hold steady through the region, with slight moderation taking place, with northernmost locations seeing below zero readings, and locations to the south and east seeing readings get into the lower teens.

CENTRAL
The most recent surge of Siberian air is still pushing slowly through the central region, and with it comes plenty of cloud-cover and moisture to deal with. Only the most southerly locations will escape the inclement weather as rain falls across much of the region through the weekend. Temperatures are warming up a bit ahead of the surge, as warmer air advects northward in advance of the cold front sweeping slowly to the southeast.

SOUTH
The main story in the south region is tropical storm 1625/29W TOKAGE, also named “Marce” by the Philippines’ state weather agency PAGASA, as it makes its way into the South China Sea. The storm moved through the Philippines over the past 48 hours, bringing heavy rain and flooding, and some gusty winds at times, as well as isolated reports of landslides. As the storm continues to move out to sea, effects will be felt less across the archipelago, with portions of Luzon still seeing a chance for showers through the weekend. For more information on this system, please see the “tropics” section of this report. Elsewhere, it will be a mixed bag of weather, as weak high pressure keeps widespread rainfall out of the picture, especially over Indochina. Locations to the south and east could still see a good chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. Temperatures will be seasonably hot, with slightly warmer readings over Indochina as warmer air advects northward ahead of a strong Siberian surge to the north.

TROPICS
Only one system to deal with in the tropics as a surge moves into eastern portions of the region, drying things out a bit.
Tropical storm 1625/29W TOKAGE, also named “Marce” by the Philippines’ state weather agency PAGASA, has finished its trek across the Philippines archipelago as it moves deeper into the South China Sea. This system is expected to continue to slowly strengthen over the warm waters west of the Philippines as it tracks slowly to the north-northwest, reaching Severe Tropical Storm status early Monday, before a northerly surge moves in and basically punches it in the throat with cool, drier air and increased V.W.S. (Vertical Wind Shear), bringing the system to its knees as the surge pushes it westward during its last dying swirls.
The northernmost locations within the tropics are seeing the benefits of drier air to the north filtering down into these locales, while locations to the south will see another typical round of weather as the warm afternoon sunshine helps lift up the available moisture into showers and scattered thunderstorms.
