NORTH
A new surge of Siberian air will start to make its way into the north region this weekend, dropping temperatures significantly across the northern third of the region over the next 4 days. Effects will be strongest across Mongolia, northern china, and southeastern Russia this weekend as most of the supporting energy pushes from west to east, with the remainder of the region getting a reinforcing shot of cooler and drier air into next week. With a lack of significant moisture out ahead of the new air mass, the front will move through as a rather dry system, so no widespread precipitation is expected through the weekend.

CENTRAL
Temperatures will warm up just a bit across the central region as the air mass moderates a bit and some warmer air advects northward ahead of the new surge that will arrive next week. The central region will see comfortably mild readings, while clouds and showers continue over the higher terrain of south-central China, over Taiwan, and also over the Ryukyu Islands. Cloudy skies will dominate over southern China and northern Indochina as well, holding temperatures back just a bit in those locations.

SOUTH
Very warm weather will continue over much of the south region, as northern locales see much drier conditions behind a strong northeasterly flow of the seasonal monsoon, and southerly locales see a continuation of hot and humid conditions. Showers and thunderstorms will be confined mostly to the most southerly locations, while rain chances will go up a bit tomorrow over Indochina.

TROPICS
The tropics are nice and quiet, as one would expect heading into the climatological “off-season”.
One disturbance, designated 99W INVEST, has moved out of the WPAC basin and into the Indian Ocean basin, and poses no threat to our area. Scattered areas of convergence continue to flare up along the I.T.C.Z. (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone), but there are no areas of risk at this time. Long-range computer forecast models are showing the possibility of some weak low pressure areas flaring up over the next 10 days, but with the time frame considered, there is low confidence in the forecast scenario. Otherwise, most locations across the tropics will see a fair chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms over the weekend as the warm sunshine lifts up the available moisture to squeeze out a few rounds of precipitation.
