NORTH
Autumn continues to transition to winter across the north region, as repeated surges of Siberian air sweep through the region. This week will see a bit of a roller-coaster ride with temperatures as no less than 3 impulses of colder air will move into the region, keeping temperatures below freezing in the northern tier of the region. A storm system riding along the leading edge of the initial surge is sweeping through Japan today, while a new surge is rolling through Mongolia and northern China, where snow showers herald its arrival. The remainder of the region will see lots of sunshine and seasonably cool temperatures, with cool but comfortable readings in the east and south.

CENTRAL
The latest surge boundary has pulled up stationary well to the south and east of the region, as a reinforcing shot of cooler and drier air moves in from the northwest. Skies will be cloudy just behind the initial boundary offshore of mainland Asia, while sunshine and scattered clouds dominate the remainder of the region. Temperatures will be comfortably mild across the region, with the warmest readings in southern China and northern Indochina.

SOUTH
Drier and slightly cooler air has moved into the northern tier of the south region, as the northern Philippines enjoys mostly clear skies and cooler conditions prevail under cloudy skies in central Indochina. There’s still plenty of moisture remaining south of the surge boundary, where scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible as the afternoon sun helps create a bit of instability. Temperatures will remain warm over the region, but will be a bit less oppressive over the areas affected by the drier air boundary.

TROPICS
We have one weak disturbance located southeast of Yap Island today, but forecasts aren’t showing much in the way of development at this time.
90W INVEST was declared by the N.R.L. (Naval research Laboratory) yesterday, located to the south-southeast of Yap Island in western Micronesia. The area is poorly-organized, but does carry a significant plume of moisture along with it. Current forecasts show this system to remain weak with an arcing turn to the north-northwest and north-northeast ahead as the weak system gets caught up in the southwesterly surface flow ahead of the next surge coming down from the northwest. No significant development is expected from this disturbance.
Conditions will remain warm and humid over the southern half of the tropics, while areas north of 15 degrees north latitude are seeing clear effects of the most recent continental surges, enjoying partly cloudy skies and seasonably warm temperatures.
