NORTH
A moderately strong storm system is sweeping through northern China today with a reinforcing shot of cold air behind the trailing cold front. A few showers will pop up over northeastern China and the Korean peninsula as this storm system moves through. Another weaker storm system is making its way to the east offshore of Japan, but due to the complicated dynamics in place, the air is actually a bit warmer behind the frontal system associated with this system as warm air advects to the north ahead of the stronger system. As the deep-freeze stays in place across Mongolia, northern China, and southeastern Russia, the remainder of the region will see a chilly day ahead with plenty of sunshine and a few scattered clouds.

CENTRAL
Temperatures are holding steady across the central region as high pressure stays settled over the region. Strong northeasterly flow on the southeast side of this strong high pressure area will continue to bring in moisture from the warmer water of the ocean to offshore locations while mainland locales will continue to see lots of sunshine under partly cloudy skies.

SOUTH
Drier air continues to get pumped into the region by high pressure over mainland Asia while tropical moisture gets carried in on the heels of the northeasterly winds generated by the same high pressure system. Interior locales of Indochina will see very few clouds, while the remainder of the region can look forward to the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms as the warm sunshine lifts up the available moisture. Temperatures will continue to be rather warm over the region as we near the solar minimum period later this month.

TROPICS
The tropics have quieted down, officially speaking; following the demise of what was 90W INVEST east of the Philippines.
The N.R.L. (Naval Research Laboratory) has taken tropical disturbance 90W INVEST off of the official record, but some lingering convergence continues in the area. Long-range forecast models do not indicate any development in the tropics for the foreseeable future. For today, most locations in the region will see a fair chance for showers and scattered thunderstorms, with more northerly locales enjoying a drier scenario.
