Good evening from the Western Pacific Weather team.
Tembin/Vinta has now been upgraded to a Severe Tropical Storm according to the 12 UTC update from the Japan Meteorological Agency on Thursday. The storm’s center is still located east of Mindanao and is dumping plenty of heavy rainfall into the region and into Visayas.
Here are the current signal alerts issued by PAGASA as of 8:00 p.m. Thursday, 22 December 2017.
Signal 2:
Mindanao – Surigao del Norte Incl. Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Northern Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Northern Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur
Visayas – Siquijor and Southern Negros Oriental
Signal 1:
Mindanao – Dinagat Island, Misamis Occidental, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Rest of Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Rest of Zamboanga del Norte
Visayas – Southern Leyte, southern portion of Leyte, Southern Cebu, Bohol, Southern Negros Occidental
Heavy Rainfall Warnings are now in place for the central and eastern half of Mindanao. Residents should be prepared to see flooding conditions as well as concerns for mudslides during the overnight period.
