At least 100 killed in flooding and mudslides in the southern Philippines

Hello from the Western Pacific Weather team.

On this Christmas weekend, it is tragic to report that according to the BBC, at least 100 people have been killed in flooding and mudslides due to Tembin/Vinta. This is the latest deadliest storm after Kai-tak/Urduja impacted Visayas just the other weekend, leading to the deaths of at least 40 people.

Severe Tropical Storm Tembin is moving south of Palawan and is bringing its powerful winds and heavy rainfall into that island and south into the northern tip of Borneo. The storm will intensify into a strong typhoon within the next 12 hours, setting its sights for the Indochina Peninsula. Those in the southern portions of Vietnam along with Cambodia need to prepare for impact by Christmas Day.
