Nakri Upgrades to a Severe Tropical Storm (Quiel)

The Japan Meteorological Agency has upgraded Nakri to a Severe Tropical Storm. So at this point it is not a typhoon but still organized enough to cause issues. This storm spun up yesterday along the tail end of a massive cold front moving south of China as does happen often this time of year.

Currently the storm is continuing to linger and remain almost stationary on the 7th of November 2019. Eventually the hold a front to the north and east has had on Nakri will let go and the storm will be allowed to slowly drift towards the west. While doing so it is dragging in moisture from the North East Across Luzon bringing with it much needed rainfall on the island. Some areas could get as much as 400-500mm of rain according to the latest run of the GFS model. (Wednesday’s Evening )

Of course to much rain can cause issues but much of Luzon is rather dry right now and water rationing has been in place for Manila for a few weeks. Thus the rain is going to be a welcomed relief for many. Meanwhile in Vietnam a same situation is in the forecast yet with the recent impact from Matmo the ground could be unstable in spots leading to landslides and flooding.

Matmo left 14 injured and 1 person missing according to the Associated Pres.

I’ll keep you posted on this storm over the coming days but of course any input from people being impacted from it including images of flooding is always appreciated.

Furthermore I continue to job search in Japan. It’s home for me which is one reason why I continue to put these updates out, if you know of any weather positions open in the country please let me know!
