Long Range Tropical Outlook and Storm Over South West Japan

The tropics remain calm for now but I talk about what March – April could hold for us in the western pacific. Plus a quick look at what’s going on across Japan this week as back to back storms start to spin up.

The first part of today’s update I discuss the back to back storms that are flowing along the jet stream from Okinawa to Hokkaido. Not unprecedented conditions but messy none the less. Find your local weather conditions here.

Meanwhile in the tropics nothing in the long range forecast is visible yet a La Nina remains in place and is expected to stick around through the spring according to the climate predication center.

The graphic below indicates where the sea surface temperature anomalies are at this time. This indicates above average temperatures in the western pacific and the Philippine sea. This would provide more fuel for storms to spin up if the ingredients become in place through March in to April.
